Mohawk flat bag featuring a bluejay standing on a spruce branch with MONTREAL beaded on the front of the bag. This piece was most likely made at the Kahnawake Reserve outside Montreal, c. 1920. The material has faded uniformly from what appears to have been pink (under flap). All original fabric and beadwork intact, including metal hook and eye closure. Wonderfully clever and whimsical depiction of a deer resting among the pines. The red velvet is in superior condition, all bead work and fabric is original and intact. Beaded with the word SOUVENIR on the front, this needle case retains its original metal snap closure and double twined handle. The interior is teal blue polished cotton with a heavily padded middle section for pins. It is probably Mohawk, c. 1920-25. Measures: 4.75 inches high by 6.50 inches wide folded (13 inches long from top of handle to bottom of dangles). (INC-008) |
